Developing a Vision for Waterford as an International City for Glass-Making and Design
Project: Developing a Vision for Waterford as an International City for Glass-Making and Design
Client: Design and Crafts Council of Ireland
Role: Researcher and Report Writer
During 2014 Karan Thompson was retained by the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland to carry out research into the development of the glass sector in Ireland with specific focus on the potential for Waterford to become an international centre for glass design and making. This process involved research into best practice models for glass globally, including the Centre international d’Art Verrier de Miesenthal – France, Corning Glass Museum – New York, Pilchuck Glass School – Washington and the Bornholm Biennial in Glass – Denmark. This work resulted in an industry publication Developing the Vision for Waterford as an International Centre for Glass Design and Making published by the DCCoI in 2015.
